Ian shared this great nugget a few years ago. Ben Horowitz recounts his interview with Netscape’s 22 year old co-founder Marc Andreessen [HERE]. What doesn’t surprise us is that Andreessen clearly demonstrated many intelligent fanatic qualities early.
Andreessen was a young technology historian, meaning he was learning the rules and exceptions at the same time while young. He internalized those lessons and stories so well that Horowitz, an expert in certain topics, “was shocked by how much” this kid knew. And I believe that Andreessen’s deep level of understanding is what helped shape his instincts and insights into new technologies. Of course this edge helped the two build Netscape and later their VC firm a16z.
